Charouleau Gap road is a rough 4x4 road going from the east side of Catalina, AZ over part of the Catalina Mountains and down in to Oracle. Although I have gone the whole route, I find it to be too rough to go all the way on a KLR. It is very fun to take part way on a KLR. I have seen both Big Horn Sheep and Deer on the ride. The trailhead is found by driving east on Golder Ranch road off of State 77 until you reach Lago Del Oro Road. Turn left on Lago Del Oro and follow it north to the trailhead kiosk. There are signs identifying it. Sign in at the kiosk begin your ride.
The road starts off as mostly a hilly dirt road until you descend into Canada Del Oro Wash 1.3 miles from the start. In the spring there can be a significant amount of water in the wash, but crossing it has never been a problem on my KLR650.
The road becomes rocky and climbs steadily after the wash. At 2.2 miles in you reach a rock face with many trails entering and exiting it, but they all converge on either side of the rock face. This is the first scenic area to stop and take it in.
